Codan expands Dubai and strengthens Africa team

Dubai, UAE - 12 January 2016.

Codan Communications, has announced the strategic decision to expand its Dubai sales and customer service teams. This expansion plan strengthens the Dubai office through the addition of regional sales manager roles and field support personnel to better service the Africa, Middle East and Central Asia market.

“Our Dubai office is geographically located in the best position to provide customer service in these regions. It has the right time zone and direct travel routes to ensure we are best able to respond to customers and provide the highest level of service and support,” explained Paul Sangster, Vice President of Sales and Business Development.

Often utilised as the primary communication network for many of the regions humanitarian and peacekeeping missions, Codan’s HF radio systems provide a fundamental service to important government agencies, military and security operations. The expansion decision was taken by Codan to help facilitate long range communications solutions to its customer base most efficiently, ensuring minimal response time.

In light of the recent expansion, we are pleased to announce Karim Kherouf and Uwe Niske have been appointed roles as regional sales managers for Codan’s Dubai office. These appointments are aimed to ensure Codan remains responsive to all customer needs, while also providing integrated communications capability throughout Africa.

Mr. Kherouf, previously of RadioTrans, joins the team to lead Codan’s HF solutions sales team for West Africa, harbouring a wealth of experience, expertise and knowledge in two-way radio communications and infrastructure developments.

Mr. Niske, who has joined Codan from SMD Telecommunications, comes with extensive expertise in communications systems and services, having specialised in marine, navigation and safety applications of VHF, UHF, HF and Satellite technologies. Mr. Niske’s role will focus on HF solutions in South and East Africa.

In support of these new appointments Codan has further strengthened its Dubai customer service and training team, with the addition of four team members dedicated to the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia regions. The appointments aim to provide fast, high quality support for field deployments and systems integration.

With the experience of holding various sales and support roles at Codan for over 4 years, we are pleased to announce Dean Booker has been promoted to the position of Director of Global Training and Customer Service. Dean’s role will involve the management and coordination of Codan’s global training and customer service team.

With 18 years of experience in the Royal Corp of Signals, Mr. Booker has had an extensive career in communications, undertaking roles in HF, VHF and UHF communications for specialist Military units, Harris Corporation, Kirsp and Control Risks. Mr. Booker will specialise in HF communications, network planning and client support.

Assigned to Mr.Brooker’s new Training and Customer Support team are three new Codan team members, including David Cumming, George Sutherland and Alan McKenna.

Mr. Cumming arrives to Codan with extensive experience in the field of engineering. Having been employed by Aegis Defence Services for the last 8 years, Cumming has held a wide range of positions within the firm, his most recent position being Corporate Director of IT and Communications. Prior to Aegis, Mr. Cumming spent 23 years serving in the British Army. Initially enlisted to serve as an Electronics and Communications Engineer before progressing to a Supervisor role. Mr. Cumming will be tasked with supporting Africa’s HF solutions and be the focal point for Codan’s LMR radio system support in the region.

Mr. Sutherland joins Codan with prior experience in telecommunications engineering and recently held the position of Communication Installation Manager at Balfour Beatty Rail in Malaysia. Sutherland’s previous experience includes roles as Communications Manager for G4S, British FCO in Afghanistan, as well as 23 years of service in the British Army Royal Signals. Sutherland’s role will focus on the management of Codan’s customer base in Central Asia and the Middle East in addition to supporting training efforts with the sales team.

Alan McKenna joins Codan from a previous position with GardaWorld where he was in charge of communications management across oilfield operations in Iraq. Mr. McKenna had previously spent 14 years in the British Army Royal Corps of Signals before entering a role with Control Risks to manage the monitoring and commissioning of communications across mobile and base operations in Iraq. In McKenna’s new role at Codan, he will be managing customer relationships within our humanitarian branch, providing dedicated training and support for customers globally
